    Hi,
I’ve just started using ModX Revolution and I’m having trouble installing packages like Ditto, TinyMCE, Breadcrumbs etc, using the unbuilt package manager in ModX. It has downloaded them all OK but it’s the install that doesn’t seem to work.

Below is typical of the error message I get when trying to install a Package from the package manager.

I have made the /core/components directory writeable by ALL - but still getting this message. Why is it trying to install to /assets/components ?? There is no such directory in ModX Revolution right? Shouldn’t it be trying to install to core/components for ModX Revolution?? Has anyone else had this problem?

So far the only one that’s worked for me has been the Wayfinder - nothing else installs.

    Thanks,
    Peter

Why is it trying to install to /assets/components
This where your visible component parts live, such as javascript, css, and usually a connector, a 3PC is split over this directory and as you’ve found the core/components directory. So, assets/components needs to be writable by your web server for the install to happen. Whether this directory should be checked for on install could be proposed in an RFE/bug.
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!

RC-2/SVN already checks these directories on install and when using Package Management; no need to file a bug anymore.

          Hi,

OK so I changed ownership of everything to the ’apache’ user (it was originally root) and then I tried reinstalling the packages and it worked!

But now I have another problem - for some reason now none of my pages actually work - for example I click on "preview" for a page and I get a blank page. It worked fine before. Not sure if this is to do with the packages I installed or something else - but I tried removing the packages I installed but the problem still persists.

I have checked the ModX error log - and it is blank.

Any suggestions? I am stuck on where to start here - aside from just reinstalling ModX :-(

            - Did you try clearing the cache?
            - Does the home page work?
            - Did you do anything else with permissions besides just make them writable? Do other webpages on that site work? (ie, can you make a test.html in the site and view it)

              - Did you try clearing the cache? YES - tried that and didn’t work
              - Does the home page work? - NO - I only had one Resource and it used to work and now doesn’t
              - Did you do anything else with permissions besides just make them writable? Do other webpages on that site work? (ie, can you make a test.html in the site and view it) I changed the ownership of all files to ’apache’ from ’root’ and there were some directories there that I found were writeable by ALL so I removed the ALL write permissions on them so they were just writeable by user and group

I tried to resintall ModX Revolution and I get these error messages when I go to Reports->Error Log. totally bizarre messages since ModX told me that the installation was successful (I did the reinstall option).]

All these directories are writeable by ALL so no idea why I am getting these errors.

Just so bizarre it’s like there’s something wrong with creating the page from a template or something.

The only thing I can think of is that if the the host is using suPHP or suExec, the folders need to be 755 and the files 644. Could you have changed from those to make them writable?

                  Hi,
yes I think you are right.

I changed the folders to 755 and left the files as they were - and it started working!

I was using winSCP as my client to log on and change permissions etc.

                  Thanks!

                    Hi,

I have not exactly the same problem, but installing packages doesn’t work anymore after I moved a complete modx installation to another server and another domain without re-installing...everything works great so far, except this one...when I try to install a package I get the error

The target directory is not a directory or not writable: /home/user/public_html/site/core/packages/
                    Couldn't transfer the Package tinymce-4.1.2-rc1.transport.zip to /home/user/public_html/site/core/packages/
Couldn't install the Package with signature "tinymce-4.1.2-rc1".

I know that the path isn’t correct the "user" part is still pointing to the old user directory but I don’t know where to change it...it doesn’t seem to be in the config.inc.php

Could you give me a hint where I find these paths and are there maybe other paths that could have the same problem (outside of config.inc.php)?

                    Thanks in advance!
