Browser compatibility status & goals for official release

I use Revolution on Windows XP with Firefox, Chrome, and occasionally Safari, with pretty consistent performance for the most part. I rarely use IE for anything, but have deduced from my few attempts and from occasional references in the forums that Revolution doesn’t really work with IE. I’m just wondering what the official stance is, as far as "MODx Revolution should work well with..." - both currently and in your plans for official release.

I have several users who I will be training on MODx who are IE-centric. We have Firefox on all our machines, and I’m more than happy to tell folks they need to use it. But just wondering what the official position is.

Revolution *mostly* works with IE. There are a few bugs that are annoying - Package Management doesnt seem to work - but those are trivial. IE is slow, as well.

We would most definitely love help in this regard, as no one on the core team is an IE expert by any means. Some of those issues might be fixed by CSS tweaks, but we are also in need of CSS experts committing to Revolution as well.

The IE speed issue is not resolvable, as IE is just slow with JS.

The official position is that we would like to get Revolution at least functionally working in IE (as it mostly is, minus a few bugs here and there) before GA. We would appreciate help in this regard.

I can’t get RC1 to work at all in IE7... javascript error:



Can’t interact with Resources/Elements/Files trees at all. I can do Site / New Document, but the Save / Cancel buttons show up on the left (over the resources tree) and don’t work.

I’m actually working on MODx Revolution Manager’s from today to friday.
I will check many JS and CSS issue with ExtJS and propose some tweaks to the official team.

However, i will not work on IE6 (i don’t have it) and i will most not be able to solve all IE7 problems.

Hopefully, IE9 will solve most of those cross browser issues.

The error on the tree with IE7 is caused by the custom CSS used for the tree.
Once i take out the custom theme and use ext-all.css alone, the tree work as expected.

I did not find any workaround, hack or ext.override to solve this issue.

I may have find a workaround.
However, i’m working under Windows 7 and the compatibility mode of IE8 to emulate IE7.

The fix is simple (and odd).
