changing category parent

Is it possible to create a new category, and then make some old categories be children of the new category? I can’t seem to figure out how to do this in the Manager interface. Is there maybe a way to do it in the database or something?

Yes, you can change it in the DB - just change the ’parent’ field to the right category ID in the modx_categories table.

I'm a new ModX user and this is one of the first things I was hoping to find.There is a category folder for every add-on under Chunks and Snippets. That just clutters the workspace.

I created a new category called Add-Ons. Since it didn't appear anywhere I remembered that a category has to be in use before it displays. So I reassigned a single-snippet addon to my Add-Ons category. With an F5 the list refreshed and I see the new category folder under Snippets.

Then I started to drag/drop other snippet category folders into my new Add-on Category. While it looks like that works, it doesn't actually re-assign the snippets to the new structure.

I couldn't find anything over at http://tracker.modx.com that discusses this concept, and searching the forum for related keywords has also been futile.

Is this possible with the current Revo v2.2.6-pl?

If you create a new category, in the "Categories" section of the element tree you can just drag other categories into the new category.

Perhaps there is a bug in the current release, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Whenever the manager refreshes, everything goes back to where it was, as children under Chunks, Snippets, etc.
