access table in revo

Hi,

I would like to access a non-modx table in revo. So far I have



Any ideas why this is not working? Do I need to create some sort of xpdo connection?

You’ll need to define a model in xPDO:

http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/xPDO20/Creating+a+Model+With+xPDO

and then add it as a package:

http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/xPDO20/Loading+Packages

Sound a bit too complicated for getting a table with 2 columns and 20 fields.

In this case, I don’t think a model is necessary but I’m probably missing something. I’ll give it a try as soon as possible. It might be easier that I think.

If that’s too complicated, just use pure PDO calls; xPDO and MODx serve as a wrapper to PHP’s PDO class and all of it’s functions are available directly. Here is an example:

The xPDO model and generated table classes are required for working with the xPDO-specific APIs however.

It is *faster*, but not proper, in the sense that it’s MySQL-restrictive. As we progress past 2.0.0-GA, you’ll start to see Revolution support other databases beyond MySQL. Using PDO directly prevents you from writing database-agnostic code (whereas xPDO will allow it).

So if you plan on distributing this code in any way, we’d recommend you use the xPDO schema way. If it’s for personal use - feel free to do it however you like.

At this point I just wanted something fast to make the functionality work. I understand why xPDO is needed and I agree. It will be nice to see MODx working on different platforms.

Anyway I need to get my head around packages and models. Hopefully once I do it, it will be a lot easier.
