Can't find search for Revolution

Hi There,

I’d love to use Revolution for a couple of upcoming projects but can’t seem to locate a search package/snippet - is search now built in to Modx?

Any help would be much appreciated.

A search Extra for MODx Revolution has not yet been built; we hope that now that we’re past RC1, MODx 3rd party developers will start to take on this endeavor.

I can, however, guarantee that by GA - 3rd Party or not - we will have some form of search.

A temporary solution would be to use Google search. I heard you can customize the results.

Thanks for the replies. The last time I looked into Google site search for a couple of clients, neither of them wanted the Google logo or Google ads on their site - which I can understand.

I might have another look at it though - sure hope there’s an alternative out there.

Actually, I thought I read somewhere that the Modx site runs Revolution. If so, how does the search function work - is that Google?

It’s a hacked version of AjaxSearch. We hope to eventually port it to be generic enough to be runnable; but at this current time that’s low on the priority list.

Bummer, search is a high priority for most of our clients - especially on sites with more than a few pages. In fact, search is all clients seem to bloody talk about!

Understandable - but here’s some other priorities for our Core Team right now:

1. Preparing for MODxpo 2010
2. Getting the core of MODx Revolution ready for a 2.0.0 GA release (or more immediately, RC-2)
3. Added documentation for MODx Revolution, including both developer and end-user docs
4. Preparing and setting up infrastructure to handle hundreds to thousands of developers contributing and committing to modx and modx-related projects, maintaining the community, enhancing a member’s experience, and providing other benefits to being a modx community member
5. Setting up components that handle donations, hosting listings, advertisments and more for modxcms.com
6. Making sure food is on the table and bills are paid with client work

As you can see, a search component is pretty far down on that list.

MODx Revolution is a framework for developing applications on top of - so the Core Team hopes that someone not swamped with the tasks above would contribute a Search component to this open source, free project.

AjaxSearch has been refactored to allow an easier migration to Revolution. The 1.9.0 release for Evolution is pretty ready. The port of this release needs lot of changes due to xPDO. I can’t provide any delivery date.
Of course your companies can contribute to support ajaxSearch and help me to find the time to progress on the ajaxSearch release for Revo
