How To Enable Editor (Revo)

Hello, I have just discovered MODx, and have downloaded and installed Revolution. I’ve been using Etomite for years, and was excited to learn about MODx. Now I am actually stuck and quite confused, as I cannot seem to get any Editor setup. When I create a new page (resource) I can only add TEXT in there. I want to be able to use TinyMCE or whatever, to change fonts, add photos etc...

I’ve checked the forums, have been trying for about 1 hour.. I cannot for the life of me understand how the SETTINGS page works... it’s like when I go to edit the settings, I am editing the SETTINGS Settings themselves... not actually choosing or changing settings.

I am not sure why that part was made so confusing like that. I should be able to change the default settings easily - like Etomite has it.

Can someone please guide me as to how to get WYSIWYG editor on here?

If you’ve downloaded it and installed TinyMCE, you can edit the "use_editor" setting to set it to "Yes", and then "which_editor" to set it to "TinyMCE". Then clear the cache and you should be good to go.

thanks for the info however, whenever I go to edit white_editor, nothing happens..
There are options in there where I have no idea how to set.

Where do i put "TinyMCE" ?
is it a textfield?

I right-hand click on Editor to use and click Update Settings...

Then I’ve played around with those settings, and it’s as if nothing saves...

I have this:

Key: which_editor
Name: Editor to use
Field Type: modx-combo-rte
Namespace: core (though i have tried to select TinyMCE from here)
Area Lexicon Entry: editor
Value: is blank (though i have tried to input TinyMCE)
Description: blahblahblah...

So either I am doing something wrong, or it’s not working?

Hi angelyssa,
I might be wrong but I think that modx revolution is still under developement, I think you will find easyer to use modx evolution which is a stable version. You’ll find more tutorials and less bugs. I suggest you to download evolution, there are some tutorials I can link you to if you’re interested

ahhh this could be... I’ve also just installed the Gallery package, and it is not working either. Like when I display [[GalleryAlbums]] it lists my albums as links in a list, but when I click to view each one, nothing happens at all.

But the thing is, is that the Gallery package requirements show that it requires Revolution...

So I’m not sure.. there’s no support for the Gallery plugin... so I’m stuck on that too now

So far I am not impressed at all with MODx ... it looks awesome, has potential to be amazing, but I’m running into major issues with things that should be simple...

So I will take your advise and try the stable release... thanks!

Hi Angelyssa, I had your same problem just few months ago when I started to use MODx. The documentation is good but there is a lack of tutorials for beginners. But I can honestly tell you, it’s hard to start but when you know how it works you won’t live without it!

So, here are the best resources to get started:

Please note that these tutorials where written for a previous version of modx evolution so you will see a slightly different terminology, but that’s all, they’re GREAT resources for beginners.

goes.

Revo has a few minor bugs (as does any product), but most likely this is just unfamiliarity with the new UI.

Look at System | Package Management and make sure TinyMCE is installed. Then in System | System Settings, put Editor in the filter box.

Double-click on "None" in the which_editor line. You should see a drop-down list with TinyMCE on it. If that doesn’t work (try it in FireFox), you can right-click on the line and select "Update." Then enter TinyMCE manually in the "Value" field.
