Don’t be embarrassed, this is a common question and having it and the reply will help others who are searching the forums! (I still often forget to set that, then bang my head against the wall for half an hour or so trying to figure out why my CSS isn’t working...

)
I remember trying this but found it was too unexciting to edit the CSS inside a doc usually I use BBedit, it also comes in handy using BBedit via ftp if you make changes to the CSS you can keep it open in case you need to undo any mistakes, via a doc you have to save, open save so you need to make sure everything is the way you want it. Its probablly not a good idea to link CSS as a document, perhaps its good when you finalize a stylesheet then add as doc and if you need to edit it have a spare aside so you can edit it elsewhere on a test sever.
I use the "webDeveloper" plugin for firefox Mac, when I’ve completed my css mods I past it into the ModX doc and save it’s so easy...
the excitement is in seeing your changes take place live.
Webdeveloper plugin for Firefox also works great on Windows and is great. I don’t use the "live CSS edit" all that much but I do love the mode where you can hover over something and find out what styles are being applied and then click to see all the applied code.
ahhhh yes the "css viewer"... Yet another great plugin.
