Separate installation folders for multiple domains

Hi all,

I read the installation manual for Revo and tried to install it on a local host. My provider will upgrade my database client tonight so that I can install Revo on my webhost

I have a question on how to layout the directory tree. I want to use one Revo installation to manage four different domains. (with the gateway plugin by switching the context) To do this I have to create several contexts:

- Manager context
- Web context (domain # 1)
- Web context (domain # 2)
- Web context (domain # 3)
- Web context (domain # 4)

Which parts can I share for all domains? I would like to use this layout

/ <- FTP Folder
/connectors
/core
/docroots
- /manager
- /domain1
- /domain2
- /domain3
- /domain4

Do I have to create an additional sub-domain for the connectors or the assets? I can create any number of subdomains pointing to any folder within my FTP webspace. The manager context will be reachable as subdomain to one of the other domains.

For example

http://mydomain.com
https://admin.mydomain.com
http://seconddomain.com
http://yetanotherdomain.com
http://thereallastdomain.com

The installation on my local client failed. I have had to create a domain for the connectors and the login-page of the manager context was not able to log me in.

Your help is beyond price

If you want separate webroots for each domain, you don’t want to use the plugin to switch contexts, you want to use the other method described here.

Just pick the domain to host the manager and connectors and put those folders in that domain’s document root.

Hi OpenGeek,

I will try this later this day. As the recommended documentation is a example for subdomains I think it should be the same way with "real" domains.

I’ll come back with feedback.

It should work just fine with full domains as well - most of that implementation will be up to you configuring the server as you want it, and not with any MODx changes (subdomains or full domains will both take the same approach on the MODx end). The tutorial covers subdomains because, well, subdomains are easier to write a tutorial for.
