/core/cache needs chmod 777 to install beta5

/core/cache directory needs/requires chmod 777 to install beta5.

775 gives error:

Make sure your /public_html/xxxxx/core/cache directory exists and is writable by the PHP process.

linux centos 5.4 vps

all other files deemed writable have been chmod’ed 775.

install advanced now.

update:

EVERY writable directory needs/requires 777 (775 won’t work)

777 gives me the heebie-jeebies.

another oodity > the install-checker says /manager & /connections are writable BUT

there ARE NO /manager & /connection directories.

at least not yet.

i refreshed mutltiple times. they’re not there.

i’m installing advanced.

okay, after install /manager & /connections are now there.

This actually is a problem with your server permissions; not revo specifically.

What is wrong with my server permissions?

I’ve never had to chmod to 777 before. Ever. For anything.

fyi, i changed to suPHP and can install fine with directories chmod 755.

both regular & advanced packages.

suPHP wraps the permissions to keep us from being hacked with file injections etc. Our typical suPHP install will not allow you to run a directory 777.


777 should never be used, and if you have to use it you had better be running something else to handle executables, etc.
