    Hi there,

Just getting started with MODX - apologies if this has been answered already.

How can I set up MODX so that I can enter a value into the "Title Tag" for each individual page, similar to the keyword and description meta data tags that are found at the bottom of each resource.

    Cheers
    Chumby

Well, I don’t really understand what you are trying to do. What do you mean by "title tag"? Every resource has a field for "pagetitle", as well as "longtitle" etc. If you want to use the pagetitle as the title for the browser, just put <title>[*pagetitle*]</title> in the template’s head section.

If that’s not what you mean, you’ll have to try to explain more what it is you are trying to do.

            Hi,

I would like every <title> tag entry to be different - and not the page title.

So for instance on page one, the pagetitle may be "Welcome to my website’, but I wont the <title> tag to read: "cars, carparts, mechanics"

on page two I would like the pagetitle to read, "Book online" and I would like the <title> tag to read: "online bookings, online quotes, onlines sales" etc etc

Can this be done easy or a I missing something?

            Cheers

You could use the "description" field for that, as it seem applicable. Or create a TV for it.

                Chumby,

From a search engine optimization (SEO) perspective you really want the page title (ie <title>) to be very similar, and sharing the same keywords as your ’main title’ on each page. And as Susan has noted, you really want the same words written into your <meta> description tag (as well as <meta> keywords although this is ignored by Google and likely all others these days).

By ’main title’ I am referring to a header tag, <h1>, which will be used by the search engine to further analyse your content. Best to have only one <h1> per page, but not mandatory if structure sensible. And don’t forget to have same words in your url/page-name too! Quite a skill to be creative with all these SEO resources.

For these areas be descriptive rather than listing words. The latter is spammy and not good to read. You can write up to about 60 characters for the <title>, for example.

For info, do NOT use ’Welcome to my website’ in any of these key areas. That means nothing to googlebot and you are giving up the real value of prime Internet real estate by using such bland phrases. Welcome visitors in your opening paragraph if needed. They are usually looking for a solution to a problem, so focus on your unique solution.

PS. I read a review somewhere suggesting a MODx SEO plugin/similar was available. Is that being developed? What would such a plugin offer over current?
