Upgrading beta products 3->4

    Just some feedback. Had to fully update the linux distribution to do this (apparently) - debian linux.

    Took a little while to schedule but all done now and moved to :
    php 5.2.6-1+lenny3
    mysql 5.0.51a

    Upgrade went smoothly.

      I can’t believe a host would "upgrade" you to MySQL 5.0.51a. Not only is it out of date (Jan, 2008), it’s known to contain serious bugs and is essentially the same as the notorious 5.0.51 except for a couple of security fixes. The main bug I’m aware of has to do with sorting so maybe you’ll be lucky with it. If you can’t get things to sort properly in Wayfinder or Ditto, 5.0.51a will likely be the culprit.

        I do believe that the Debian version of 5.0.51a has some back-ported things, but still I’d never put it in any flavor into production myself.

          Spoken to the host about this and they say their hands are tied by the control panel system in place for the servers. Plesk (parallels).

          Here is his reply:

          The 5.0.51 version of MySQL is the latest stable version of mysql for
          Debian Lenny (which is the latest stable version of Debian)

          I have tried to install mysql-server-5.1 from backports, however it
          wants to rip out a whole heap of plesk packages, which not on at all.

          Unfortunately, our hands are tied as well in terms of upgrading the
          Distro as Plesk 9.2.3 does not yet have support for Debian Squeeze (the
          next release)

          So now I have to see if there is a work around with plesk, surely this must be impacting millions of users around the world.

          First problem I have found is FirstChildRedirect doesn’t redirect to the first child it redirects to a random document in that folder.
