    Hello,
I have been working with joomla for 4 years now and have developed considerable experience in developing extensions (components and modules) for joomla which I find very easy and intuitive, while I leave the design part to my web designer. Lately we’ve been taking a look at Modx 2 (Rev). I like its speed and SEF while my designer finds it easier to work with. What turns me off is that extensions which, can be installed in one click (like in joomla), cannot be developed here. It looks as if Modx is for just for good looking websites, and not web applications where joomla scores very high. I may be wrong, so I would like someone to correct me if its possible, and and also tell me where I could find some help to take me through the steps of developing installable extensions, without the need for creating manually docs (resources), writing installation files, looking for doc ids, copying snippets, chunks etc..
    Thanks

Hi Rajesh. Welcome to MODx, and we’re glad you’re checking out our beta product Revolution.

What do you mean? They definitely can, altough "one-click" is a misnomer - we prefer to allow developers to add license agreements, pre-install readmes, and setup/installation options, installation validators and resolvers, and more - not to mention more than one provisioner for an install.

Revolution is far, far superior in terms of API and functionality for developing web applications. I would argue that to my grave; Joomla requires quite a bit of hacking to do simple things.

      And the documentation: http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/

      And API: http://api.modxcms.com/

And examples in our modx-components SVN repository: http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/modx-components

If you have more specific questions, please do ask.

Please also note that Revolution is still in beta, and therefore will not have fully-written documentation, tons of examples, and such, that do not normally accompany a beta product. You might have to get your hands a bit dirty.

        Hey!
Thanks a lot. I never expected such a prompt reply on the forum. I’ll take a look and will definetly ask questions. Honestly I did look at Modx in 2007 but stuck to joomla. With Rev i think ... it looks good and may make me switchover. We’re looking at the beta to be ready for the stable release. Best of luck to Modx
