I think I covered all the bases there. :’(
When I step through from index.php I find it breaks in the GetConfig method call
The problem occurs in the file modx.class.php on line 1043.
Firstly on line 1041 in the _loadConfig call it returns false (which should of course shut the app down anyway
Then on line 1043 the log method causes it to crash.
When I look at xpdo.class.php it enters the log method OK however the _log method fails (line 1441)
If I put an echo "flag";exit(); at the beginning of _log method it never gets called and i can’t figure that out so my trail goes cold.
Looking back at the _loadConfig method the comparison between $settings and $this->getCollection(’modSystemSetting’) is failing (line 2618) and I can see that $settings is null
It’s not clear if you started from scratch after updating your memory_limit. If you didn’t, do that first. Sounds like the installation didn’t complete normally.

My memory_limit has always been ok. I reinstalled after I made my last changes (enabling Mcrypt)
I think there is some confusion forming here, or I don’t understand the issue; beta 3 does not require a manual build of the core transport package if you are using the download package. The Development and Testing notes link is supposed to be for those that get Revolution from SVN. What specifically on that page needs to be linked from the Fresh Installation page? I don’t want to confuse users who are not using SVN.

Exactly! Need a link "If you use Revolution from SVN - go here".
At least two people are confused.
