I had a client recently ask about an Intranet / Extranet and since we’re planning on usng ModX for thier web site, I was wondering if people thought Revolution might be up to the task. If you’ve done this before and have any light pointers, please can you post them up?

    I’d definitely need

    1. Secure login for a number of editors
    2. For intranet to be on a subdomain and not accessible from the www in general
    3. New content to be approved by senior editors

    Thanks

      Hi,
I’m sure others will have more informed opinions on this than I do. Nonetheless, I think that 1 and 2 would be fine.

Unless Revo has something I’m not aware of, I don’t think MODx has a document moderation type of functionality. I’ve had requests going back quite aways about this, and for stuff like versioning and document permissions, I’ve always had to look elsewhere than here. I hope I’m wrong now. smiley

        Interesting Dave,

I just posted a message in a docs thread talking about document management. I too would like to know if MODx Revolution can handle this onerous task - either now or some time in future.

You’d need to define exactly what you need to do from a doc mgmt perpsectively honestly. Revo works with Static Resources now: files on the filesystem. That being said, it’s lacking in the workflow and versioning department currently.

At the risk of possibly sending people astray, once in awhile I go to the CMS Matrix and "shop" there for stuff. It allows you to search based on a huge number of characteristics.

            http://www.cmsmatrix.org/matrix/cms-matrix?func=search

As an example, I searched to include PHP, Document Management, Versioning, and Open Source. I got a relatively small list using that. Of the stuff that came up, I recognized and/or knew some of them - I saw Website Baker, a small, extremely easy to use system that I’ve used for a number of sites, and then hefty ones like EZPublish, Tiki Wiki, Post Nuke, and Sitellite. How well they implement those is anyone’s guess, but there you go.

            Cheers, Dave

              Hi All,

I just read this post, obviously quite old now. Has there been any development as far as Intranets are concerned?

We have a client that we built a website for and they now want an intranet / extranet behind it.

              Any response would be appreciated.

              Bill.

Offcourse you have to provide more information what the intranet "can do".
If you can list the "features" forum members can provide you more info if its possible etc.
