Backend Manager Performance Help (Slow after upgrading) [SOLVED]

Hi, I’ve had a very basic site previously running on MODx Rev 2.0.4-pl2. A couple days ago I did the upgrade to 2.1.1.

Originally when I installed one of the very first versions of Revolution the Backend Manager was very fast and pleasant to use. I remember about a year or so ago when I upgraded to 2.0.4 the backend manager was considerably slower. I’m back so to speak now and will be working heavily or the next year with the Modx backend and developing the site. It’s certainly been awhile and I noticed the new 2.1.1 which supposedly remove a lot deprecated code and speed up the performance of the manager. After the upgrade, the manager is still "painfully slow."

I have search just about every thread relating to this issue on the forums and have not found a solution.

1. One simple solution although i doubt very much that it really would effect using all aspects of the manager is disabling the RSS homepage feeds, which I really wouldn’t want to do (so i can keep up with modx news) and further more I cannot find where i could even disable these in the manager,

You can disable RSS feeds in site Configuration. Go to Tools, Configuration...

With my current modx installation, there isn’t even a tools > configuration menu option??

2. Another forum post from a modx staff I believe said to check the ’Error Logs’ and ’System Events Logs’ and make sure the issue is not on the hosting end.

In my menu options, Reports, there is a menu option for ’Error Logs’ and there are 0 errors.
I do not see a system events log to access via manager.

Beyond this I can tell you I have gzip in my htaccess and my outputted html are fine regarding speed, my hosting should be completely up-to-date and should not be a server or host issue regarding this actual backend modx speed issue.

Hopefully someone can help me improve my manager performance or give me tips to try to improve in any way. Or point to me all the areas I need to check or double-check that might be slowing down the manager.

The two RSS feeds can make a big difference in the speed of the Mgr. I always turn them off. I figure that if anything important comes up, I’ll see it here on the Forums.

In Revo:

Go to System -> System Settings.

Put "feed" in the "Search by key" box at the upper right and click anywhere in the grid -- they should pop right up.

Double-click on the "Yes" next to the two "enable" settings and change it to "No."

Thank you BobRay. This did the trick. Manager is now significantly faster, good enough. And thanks for explanation on how to quickly find in system settings.


Side Note:
I would of preferred to keep the RSS but I guess at this point, the performance penalty in having enabled is not worth it. At this point it might be a good idea for modx releases to have disabled by default, or here’s a idea:

On the homepage dashboard for RSS feeds there should be a quick access button "Enable RSS"/"Disable RSS" so people can turn on and off quickly and use them temporarily to check what’s going on in the modx community (general news, security and forums).

Or even better, a button to fetch the news just once, manually.
