Packt CMS award 2007

The nominations have started for Packt CMS Award, it would be time to make an announcement in Important News forum like Ryan did last year (see here).

Do you think it would be better to focus efforts on the "Best Open Source PHP Content Management System" or Most Promising Open Source Content Management System (a new category if I am not mistaken) ?

I’ll edit my forum signature right away and post an announcement at the french board once we settle on a category to vote in...

I believe we should push for the Most Promising CMS. Even though I believe it’s the best, it will get even better in the months to come, and that’s very promising

EDIT: I’ll hold my vote until we come to conclusion on this thread.

I think most promising probably makes the most sense from the perspective that we really don’t have a large enough community to win in the "overall best" category. And with our first "true" release happening on Oct 28, 2005, we qualify for the window.

So perhaps noting this in the public forums is an order? Or maybe even on the MODx homepage?

OK guys thanks for the feedback that’s kind of what I was leaning toward, focus on the best chance to win !

As for announcing it publicly, that was the goal of my post (see above), like last year make an "Important Annoucement", edit our forum signature and why not make a vote badge or something on the Homepage

David want to take a stab at an announcement draft edit and I’ll copy paste it into a new announcement?

Nominations for Packt Open Source Content Management System Award have started a few days ago.

With a total prize of 20 000 $ (double last year’s prize), a new "Most Promising Open Source Content Management System" category, and more and more users enjoying MODx we think 2007 is the year for MODx to win a prize !

First step is to nominate MODx as Most Promising Open Source Content Management System ! Nominations end August, 31 and voting begins September 10 (don’t worry we’ll remind you ).

Of course, adding a link on your blog, your forum signature, your MODx websites couldn’t hurt either

The Packt Open Source Content Management System Award is designed to encourage, support, recognize and reward an Open Source Content Management System (CMS) that has been selected by a panel of judges and visitors to www.PacktPub.com. Following on from the success of 2006, Packt has expanded the Award for 2007 with an increase in prize money and the addition of new categories.

The 2007 Award will continue to support open source Content Management Systems and in order to reward more than one project, Packt has developed new categories for a wider variety of CMS’s to benefit from. These are broken down into five different categories including the overall winner and the most promising Open Source CMS

* Most Promising Open Source CMS
* Best Open Source PHP CMS
* Best Other Open Source CMS
* Best Social Networking CMS


The first stage of the Award is nominations, which begin on July 16. This is open for visitors to www.PacktPub.com to submit their choice of Open Source Content Management System that they would like to go through to the final stage. The CMS’s that receive the most votes in their category will go through to the final stage, which starts in September.
