I’m going to be posting this "official" 0.9.7 roadmap tonight or first thing in the morning, in place of the current site roadmap. Let me know if there are any questions, concerns, or suggestions before I link this page from the menu...

[UPDATE: moved the 0.9.7 roadmap in place of the previous roadmap]

    Cheers...

From a communication standpoint, it’s great to have a public Roadmap, so many people asking about it !

There are many things in this roadmap that I thought would only be in 1.0 (like Unified User and Security Model, completely new manager or Contexts...). Amazing indeed !!!

My question now is what will later release add to this incredible mix ?
I feel like 0.9.7 is going to be almost what 1.0 was described to be so far....

David, I’ve slowly and tirelessly been beating Jason down on the release numbering ... no promises yet but ... tongue

Ok, that explains things a little now !

I know it’s not really the place to discuss this, and I am sure there are things planned to that effect, but how do we handle the transition for snippet, plugin and module developpers ? Sure there is the xPDO forums which are a great start as far as looking into the future, but I thought I’d ask especially since down the line we’re gonna get a lot of questions about resources availaibility for 0.9.7 (sorry if I am getting ahead of myself there). Maybe a new thread could address this ? (ah, but I am asking more and the roadmap is a great step already grin)

There are a few features I’ve pulled down from 1.0 into 0.9.7 just because I’ve been delayed by other factors anyway. But there are plenty of differentiators left for 1.0. I’m working on the list, but real quickly, the major points are:

                • Bootstrap installation
                • Content Versioning, by Culture
                • Resource Elements (tie Content Elements directly to Web Resources; no template required)
                • Content Elements can have parents and children
                • Language files become default with override/extension via database table to isolate customizations
                • Advanced logging and state management via configurable Registries
                • Performance optimization
                • more I’m forgetting but will put on the final list... tongue

Or so Ryan thinks... tongue I believe it’s he thats slowly being worn out by his own efforts. But seriously, I still refuse to skip versions at this point. 0.9.7 reflects the relationship to the existing data structures and 1.0 introduces the new data model and is the significant departure from the "Etomite legacy". I think those numbers reflect reality accurately, and help to continue to prevent too large an influx of unskilled adopters until we are truly ready for that step.

Thanks a lot for this detailed clarification, this will help a lot answering the numerous question @the french boards, there is a lot of expectations (and questions) about the future MODx release. Also this will ensure consistency and not giving unreasonnable expectations to people while giving them a few teasers to feed their greedy appetite for info tongue
