Would it be possible to allow to use Markdown syntax alternatively to BBCode when posting in MODx site and forums? I find Markdown much more natural and easy to use than BBCode. Probably it would be possible to allow Markdown in Wiki too?
I don’t mean replacing the existing syntax, but rather allow to use Markdown as the alternative.

I just did a few searches for a markdown SMF mod and didn’t come up with anything. IBP doesn’t support it either. Its possible to code an addon for it but you’d have to research how to write an SMF mod.

The same here.
Using Markdown is relatively simple, as it requires an include and then calling Markdown function, like this:
<?php
include_once( 'path/to/markdown.php' );
$output = Markdown( $input );
However, I don’t have any knowledge of SMF nor its modules.
As to MODx site, the Markdown plugin could be used.

BTW, PunBB does Markdown and Textile, but I am not sure about using several syntax...
I agree BBCode is less natural but I use BBCode Extra extension for FF and it’s just as natural
Plus, most users will be familiar with BBCode, since it’s "standard" forumers syntax...
Of course in some case it makes more sense to choose another syntax, like Textile for Texpattern forums, but in our case not sure...

It would certainly require some development effort, but it would be wonderful to be able to set a default parser per-user basis. However, I think it rather a feature request to be posted to SMF devs.

I just find it time consuming if only I want to structure the text. Lists are a good example. Anyway, I’ve been using Opera for daily browsing since version 5.12, but I’ve never thought about searching for such an add-on. Will give it a try.

Well, I don’t think opera has this, I had searched (a while back I admit) and found a BBCode widget but it was very poor... FF extension allow you to build list in 2 seconds just click on several lines and turn them into any kind of list at once... really a big time saver
But sure, I wouldn’t mind Textile or Markdown which anyway would be faster... my point was just balance effort with usefulness...

We had a js edit bar for Textile as a Textpattern plugin, but this is nice too
