Awesome. It was my first PHP book, and I have bought several since, but that one book is the one I reference when I get stuck. Between that book and the docs at php.net with the user comments, 90% of the scripts I put out were solved in <10min when I got into a jam. Plus, it’s cheap enough that if you hate it, you don’t have to feel to bad about donating it to a charitable group.

While I am here (sorry for the off topic, if someone wants to split the whole PHP training thingy...) : what PHP editor are you using on Mac OS X ?
I was suggested Eclipse with phpEclipse but might be a bit overblown for me, isn’t it ?

I currently have TextMate but didn’t check yet if that would cut it...

Nice... and it is an eBook PDF... God I love instant gratification.

For PHP development, since I don’t do any development outside of MODx, I set up MAMP (right now I am running version 1.4.1) and installed MODx with it. then I just use TextMate for writing the scripts (and use an include call in the snippet or module I am working on so when I edit and save the document I am working on in TextMate, the changes are reflected in MODx). I have tried LOTs and LOTs of text editors and IDEs, but every time I keep coming back to TextMate. It would be cool if Eclipse had a MODx API plugin so I could run the snippets right there, but then again that seems more complicated than using TextMate and including the file in the snippet I am working on. The syntax highlighting really helps me, and that is one of the things that originally drew me to TextMate, but there are so many conveniences in it that I find myself using it’s keyboard shortcuts and expecting it’s auto closing features outside of the app! crazy. Reading through the documentation for TextMate blows my mind. This program is insane.

Indeed Paul. This is me too; asking someone to remember all the functions in PHP is like asking Java developers to remember every package and class name; you master the key ones and learn about the others when you need to. All you need is a nice IDE, like Eclipse with PHPEclipse, that knows the function names for you, and google for those times when you can’t remember what letter it starts with.
