[Draft] Transforming MODx: OO, MVC, and OR/M, Oh My!

@MODx Team:

Attached is a draft article I am working on to try and explain in-depth how my rewrite of MODx implements MVC design patterns. The audience of this article is fairly technical, but I tried to relate the ideas to concepts most MODx users can wrap their head around.

Before I publish this in my blog, I just wanted to share and see what the team thinks.

I just read it... I must say I was thinking that it would be a very technical paper, but as a non-coder I found this was clear and concise and a flowing read. This being said, I sure need to re-read it ! I’d have a hard time offering improvements, I am quite humbled by the high level thought process here

There are lots of things in that paper but it has done a lot for me in terms of understanding the architectural choices (and, for that matter, better understand that MVC is one of the design patterns available but not as central as one would think reading articles on the web).

It’s a great brief for team members about MODx 1.0 and this will do a LOT as far as communicating about the future is concerned.
Really, I think it’s the missing piece that will help fit the puzzle of the future together for many people inside and outside the team... Amazing article !

It’s all very exciting... mentionning there is a live site running the new core with success is also a key factor to help people realize all things 1.0 are not that etheral

I will need to read this a few times. Thoughts after first pass:

I’d like a reference after:
"This is similar to the concept of Flows in the Spring MVC framework that is gaining popularity in the J2EE world."
relating to "concept of Flows in the Spring MVC framework".

I also think you should put (OO) after the first "object-oriented", to tie in with the title. That way, people can tick off the parts of the title in their head more easily as they go through.

Other than that, this is good solid stuff. I wouldn’t want to water it down, although a Dummies version may be an interesting addition. I’d like to see a "How does the transformation of MODx affect us?" post from another team member, but that may well be best placed after a few more articles from Jason.

Just got done reading the article and I must say, well done. Since I have been working with the new core for the last few weeks, I think this is a really good introduction and lays the groundwork for some great things to come.

And for all of you who haven’t seen it yet, the framework really makes creating some custom db driven apps very easy to develop.

Yea, I think it would be useful too.. Ryan usually does pretty good job in translating Jason to Human..
