I always prefer to speak to the "offender" first if at all possible; it may have been some kind of silly mistake, or something. Who was it that is supposed to have said "Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence"?

Oh, definitely block the downloads. I just meant that going "over his head" could get somebody clueless into trouble, which would be a pity if they were only being clueless.

I’m no network admin, but isn’t there software to monitor such things and block it at a certain point?

I sent him/her a PM to inquire why his account was used for such purposes. In the meantime, Zi removed the download privs for that account. It is possible their machine simply goofed and got stuck in a download loop due to some goofy download manager, and they walked away for a few hours.

OK, it’s done...

It could be a side effect of the framasoft article I published recently and which has reached 7233 hits since november 19th... I guess that’s to be expected as MODx is known to the public.

Also, Some people are not satisfied with the required registration to download MODx. A few of them might register accounts and try to "bypass" this making their account information public. I don’t know if a download limit can be set on a per user / per day basis ?

Not in silly SMF, unfortuantely. That one account logged roughly 100 downloads in a few hours time.
