Those are easy enough to rip off. It’s the user authentication that’s hard to adapt.

Chemo seems to have something going if it isn’t vaporware.

He’s also pulled in a few of the big names off the boards. (Boy am I glad that the few of us ex-osc refugees have a place that doesn’t have the cargo that was included with osc.)

I did play with several carts and basically agree with Ryan about the strengths of osc.

cp was if I do believe a fork at one time of osc ...
fishcart ... another famous slugger ... but ...
zencart ... errrr no thank you ...
phpshop ... do believe is basically dead ...

which leaves the idea of sticking with some kind of osc integration ... or teaming up with the chemo group.

I’ve been planning on merging my fork of osc with modx but ... sadly it starting to look like vaporware. If you’re interested in seeing my version with about 400 items (errr in Japanese) please hit me up on pm and I’ll either put up a link to it or just email the bugger to you. At the moment it has:
- abilities above MS2.2 yet not as bloated as loaded
- missing the register globals fix
- 90% + block control
- 95% true mulitilingual ability based on SQL translations (errr some translations are still floating around in files)
- modular front end (never bothered with the backend and had thought of just merging the newer cvs in
- parses at about half the speed of straight osc
- majorly reduced tables which means the front end is on a template system and could go CSS with relatively little work
- most code is in the main files with little on the template side (your mileage will vary)
- a few of the major contributions that I really thought would help a basic store ... errr missing the SEO stuff though
- newest versions of NewsDesk and FaqDesk
- at one time slapdashed ability to work with phpBB including an inegrated admin ... errr
- added code notes whenever I had a chance
- and other things I can’t remember at the moment

I was wondering what was happening with that mod that was going to be like a mini phpmyadmin thingy were you could define what fields you need in the db. THIS is something that would be key to any cart.

osc is just too limited in it’s format of doing products. With the net today and folks like Robert Kiyosaki and other "GET RICH" folks putting in a good word for internet sales I dare say that we wouldn’t really be able to come up with a decent pre-stock cart that most people could use. If we did try you’d end up being like the loaded version of osc.

I’m thinking here of something that is based on modx or is very very close to a module for modx following agreed upon API’s and such.

I too was thinking of trying apart osc and pulling in the better parts and dumping the excessive application_top and various doubled functions. This too would block any problems with the admin side in regards to whatever Hpld might have to add.

ugh ... I really want to do this .... ugh ... I really need to make a point to put some time aside for this.
