I think we all have our stories about our first experiences with Eto..<COUGH!> MODx. I remember searching high and low for an easy to use CMS that could do everything that I wanted it to do: forum integration, link directory, news and article posting, etc. My problem was that all the ones I tried seemed to all have their fair share of shortcomings. Mambo, though it looked cool and had a robust developer community, just seemed too bloated to me and didn’t make sense with all the lingo (What the hell is a Mambot anyways?). I was almost on the verge of using Subdreamer...but I frowned on the cost of it and, after reviewing a nulled copy, found it to be too restrictive. I just kept going back to MODx.
Although it took a little time to get my head wrapped around it, I’ve found MODx to be the most flexible CMS out there. And what you see here is just the tip of the iceberg. With modules, plugins, and the like, MODx can’t get anything but better. My goal is to have a CMS that I can write custom functions like link directory modules and the like. With MODx, that possibility is just right around the corner.
