Could somebody make any suggestions that might help me when I am configuring the site/home page in modx manager there are a few things I am not sure about and would appreciate a little help.

would it be better to use default template or modxhost, and I am also not sure what is being looked for with the id resource for home page as a number is in the text box, and as a home page the only thing I can think of is sitename/index..

    Thanks

The configuration setting can indicate any resource you want to be your "home" page (the first page a visitor gets when he goes to yourdomain.com). That resource can use any template you want. There are no restrictions or requirements.

I just leave it at resource #1, and edit it as required, but that’s by no means a requirement. It’s much easier to edit one resource than to create another one then go change the configuration.

Along those lines, I rarely delete resources; it’s easier to just unpublish an unwanted resource then repurpose it later by editing it as needed.

The only thing I don’t just edit to my needs are the files in assets/templates; I always create my own template folder (even if it’s just a duplicate of an existing one that’s renamed) and work with files from that. I used to just edit the css files in the assets/templates/default folder, but then these were liable to be overwritten when upgrading, which is a nuisance.
