Why include Gender in user lists?

I am just wondering why gender is included in the user lists (manager and web). I don’t find that information useful at all. In a few instances I have changed it to show the number of logins instead and it seems much more useful. Other better options could be the creation date, the last login date or basically anything other than gender.

I am guessing the gender is left over from legacy stuff but it seems a bit non pc (politically correct) and old fashioned to have the users gender as a main point of reference.

I don’t use it all either, just leaving it blank.

Perhaps the original programmers had use for it. Maybe they had an idea of setting up a dating site.
