Reporting bugs with add-ons? Do we do it or leave it to the author.

I was just wondering if we spot a bug in an add-on do we report it in Jira or just deal with it in the open forum?

In this particular case it is a bug in the code of PHx. What would be the proper "team member" approach to reporting this, public or private? If I did not wear a MODx badge I would bring it up in the public forum for the specific add-on.

I think it’s best to explore it in the open forum, though in this case bS is a team member and the contributor of PHx, so private communication with him might also be valid. However, I don’t think bS wants to be the only person developing/supporting PHx (correct me if I’m wrong), so I would say public forum would be the most effective use of the community.

As we move to clearly define official, or what I want to call "reference" add-ons and extensions, we will start making use of Jira; but I’d like to reserve that for 0.9.7 components and beyond. I still haven’t clearly defined how those projects should be setup in Jira.

OK, I went through the PHx support forum and it is mostly composed of usage issues. Since there is no development discussion on that forum, and it seems that almost only team members have posted there, I will open a new topic here in the member QA section. No reason to point out a bug in the code that has not caused anyone but me any problems so far, not that it would make much difference in the big picture.
