Hi, I am currently working on building a site for our club. I did some research on CMS's in the past and Etomite seemed like the way to go. Then came ModX with webusers, which I could really use, so I switched to that. Now there is another release coming and I am not sure what would be the best way to proceed.
I would like to work on a version that has a defined status so I can get support on it. I am currently working on layout stuff and making/updating the menusnippet and newssnippet. At then end of this month I have to show what I have so far and I will have to instruct my editors on how to use the CMS. We want to open the site for public at the start of our new season which starts end of August, so there is a time to switch a version, but I am concerned about the upgrade path and having to instruct my editors all over again.
I am wondering what would be best to proceed:
- Go back to Etomite (official supported release, but no webusers) and upgrade to MODX later.
- Stay with ModX rc2 (unclear what version it is since Etomite forum was cleared, but with webusers and TV. Due to unclear version no real support is possible. Is it safe to run on a live site?)
- Wait for the upcoming release (will I be able to convert my existing stuff form ModX rc2? How different will it be for my editors? When will a release be available?)
- Other ideas

Well, the good news is any of those version will work. The next "preview release" will upgrade any of those installations, including the databases. Just gotta save your config file and assets directory and that's about it!

The next release of MODx2 will be backward compatible with Etomite 0.6 and earlier versions od MODx. The new installer will take care of all your files and database. The upgrade process will be very smooth!
Work with what you have now and the next version will only add more features for you to work with. Webusers and TVs will also work in the next release.
Ok, thanks for the answers. I will stay with my current version.
