I have just realised that a search for say "snippet" on the MODx search pulls up pages from the repository as well as pages from the documentation.
Can we
a) Exclude Repo items from that search
or
b) Have a dedicated documentation search, and have the MODx general search results page suggest repeating the query in just the Documentation, Repository or Forum search?
There’s been a surge in newbie questions again, even people claiming it’s unreasonable to expect people to know basic concepts like "snippet". I don’t want any excuses for not finding the documentation.

Your query was not specific enough. Try using larger words, or less common phrases.
In my opinion the SMF search function sucks. Even if I get 2 million results, Im looking for "snippet" and I want my results!

I was of course talking about the main site not SMF, but I have a solution for eemi.
Search for snippet.
Click Search again.
This works because you’re then searching the whole forum, not just the forum you were in.
And because the search refuses to pull up one unique phrase, you’re also increasing the chances of finding a post within the forum you were in!!
But anyway. Can we exclude Repo items from the MODx site search?

Why don’t we just replace everything with google search boxes instead of the built-in crap?

Personnally, I use a favlet to search the MODx forums, based on something written up by someone @Textpattern’s :

I shared this a while back, but yeah why not add Google search instead of built-in SMF search...

Well, ok. But surely that ends up pulling stuff from all corners of the site - my original post is asking for a search that ignores Repo items. Or at least makes a clearer distinction between the two.
I’d rather the main MODx site used a MODx search. I think it’s good to demo what MODx can do.
