Zi - Mark MODx Installer Theme

Here is the new installer theme based on the one Zi designed. If you would like to see it in action, it is running here http://testing.modxdev.net/install/ . Please do not complete the last step of the installation so that other dev team members can test.

Feel free to tweak or clean up the code to your liking.

NOTE: Zi felt the installer should remain in a tabled layout for maximum compatiblity.

When accepting the license and clicking "next", I ended up at the bottom of the next page and had to scroll up to the top. FF 1.0.7 Mac.

Odd, I can’t seem to duplicate that. What do you think of the look Susan?

With FF in Linux the checboxes and radios are stretched vertically (looks very funky, oval radio buttons and rectangular checkboxes). I’d imagine this is a linux only issue because I don’t think that windows will let you stretch things like radio buttons.

Other than than it looks good.

Version should not be underlined, as it looks like a link. I definitely like the look and feel, though I wonder if it’s adding something very late in the game wihout adequate time to test...

Looking good thus far but apart from what’s mentioned above only the input boxes doesn’t look as smooth as the rest of the template. Buttons needs a different style

PS. I’m never fond of calling anything a Wizard. I personally prefer Installer or someother. That’s just my two cents.

Looks good in Konqueror too, only the selection of the radio buttons for install/upgrade aren’t very visible.
Perhaps, the active button should be a bit lighter? Could be a problem due my TFT screen too, such screens seem to have less contrast...

Personally, I don’t read the text at the first page, not sure if I’m the only one
Maybe, a short summary and what information you gonna need to proceed is ehm, more functional? :-P

ahhh...... I wish I could code or atleast understand how installer code works!

Actually, I’ve designed the pages of installer and got stuck when I’ve not found the styling bits in installer code (because its dynamic). So, I dropped a line to Mark, he ported the structure, now I am working on styling, and I am sure it is a bit tough for me to quickly get myself around it.

It is a technology preview of up-coming installer , not build to release with 0.9.1... because it needs serious testing, since it is coming from zi (please keep secret)

I’ll throw in my 2 cents too.

I’m a big fan of having buttons and input boxes, generally look the way users expect them to look. For instance, when I got to the page where you fill in your details about your database (name, username, password, etc.) - the input fields look like the buttons at the bottom, and like the links on the right side. To me this is a usability issue. While it seems like the installer should have some smooth art, we probably shouldn’t be as concerned with stylizing everything as we are making it instantly understandable. After all, with any luck, these are pages that the user won’t be seeing very often after the initial install.

My vote would be to make form elements look like form elements.
