Hi
I am pondering how I may do the following in ModX, and thought that it must have been done many times before so someone must have more ideas than me.
I ham developing a website which lists a companies products, in this case paints and adhesive coatings for various surfaces.
Each product is a resource which is found via a Wayfinder menu, which may have, for example, the following structure/content:
-> Products
-> Paints
-> Red Paint
-> Blue Paint
-> Waterproofing
-> SuperSealant
-> DuroSealant
-> Roof Coatings
-> SuperSealant
-> DuroSealant
-> Roof Sealer Pro
Note how some products appear in more than one catagory. This is where the problem lies. Each product is a resource, so SuperSealant for example is entered as a resource under the Waterproofing container. Thats fine as Wayfinder outputs the contents of the Waterproofing container as expected, but I also want this particular resource to [effectively] appear under the Roof Coatings container (menu) as well. How can I achieve this without duplicating the resource and moving the duplicate copy - this doubles up so when a spec for the product changes I would need to change two or more resources.
I’m thinking the answer may lie with TVs, perhaps using a multi-select listbox. Before Modx came into my life I’d do this manually with a database, but I’d like to avoid that if possible. Has anyone tried this before?
I would just create a "weblink" resource in the tree that doesn’t contain the actual resource. This will just create a link to the main resource so you only have one resource to edit for each category. I’m not sure how many products you are managing, but if it is only a few then that won’t be a big issue. Otherwise the best option might be to create a TV for "categories" and then write a snippet to generate your navigation structure based upon the selected options on the categories TV.
