    Some excellent points here.

I totally agree that the prime place to recruit devs/contribs should be the forums/community. I didn’t mean to suggest that we need to start looking for outside devs for contribs and I want to separate the two goals of getting more devs and expanding dev awareness of MODx.

I also think that a clear contribution mission is important. The mixed messages aren’t as harsh as dev_cw mentions but pretty close. I think it would be important to encourage contributions by creating a policy and a process for people to contribute. Explain in no uncertain terms how to contribute, that we are actively seeking patchers, testers and developers BUT there is a way to become one, patch submissions, improvements and optimizations and if the Dev Team find a dev they can be recruited. .

On social networks: My purpose for suggesting was a) to protect the MODx brand in those spaces b) to establish a presence as absence in many cases leaves a void and c) to create an expanded awareness campaign; to get people to ask: "What is this MODx?", "I’ve heard of it, is it any good?", "Maybe I should try it."

In addition, not all social networks are created equally. MySpace (I wouldn’t suggest MySpace) is not Twitter, Twitter is not Plurk, FriendFeed is an aggregation svc with comments, Facebook is a mess but used by all walks of life.

As always, my aim is to bring as many smart and savvy folks to MODx as possible. Call me the MODx Cheerleader, Handshaker, Friendmaker. The more people that come in, the more demand for devs to learn, join the forums and submit patches and contribute ideas and code. So indirectly, Social networks may lead to devs but it is not the purpose.

        Ryan,

I’d send an email to ev or biz and ask for it since it isn’t being used actively.

That being said would you wan’t to share the account info in either Basecamp or whatever Atlassian section you share stuff in so we can "man" the post from time to time.

I have a PHP twitter class here so someone could create a plugin for the blog too.

Do we wanna FB Page? Joomla and WP are in and have some level of community?

I’d say we do want a facebook page but I’m going to have to leave that to someone else to handle... I just can’t brink myself to that one. Twitter was a stretch enough!

Jay, I just spent some time in Twitter and noticed that you are doing a good job of creating a stir around MODx. Some interesting tweats on the subject. I can sure see how this social networking thing can be a great awareness tool.

Thanks for clearing up the objectives, sounds like a good plan grin

About Facebook... not a big fan either...

I received the invite to admin the page. Did you know that there already was one named MODx Users:
                http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=10207076991

                  David,

I didn’ t see the group but I would be happy to let it be a fan group and support it in any way we can. Notices and such. I still think that we need to have the page I set up yesterday so that we can use it as a marketing point of entry w/in MODx. I’ll post a link to MODx the MODx Users group and we can find other MODx user groups elsewhere on FB.

Having a fan run group is a significant sign of maturity for MODx and I’d like to see more of these where people can share and spread love for MODx w/o our vested agenda of pushing MODx out.

One thing that it makes me think of is that we should be offering badges and artwork for use on such fanpages, articles, as well as links to the site. I’d like to see something like spread.modxcms.com where people could learn how they can share it. We can offer banners, badges, wallpapers, onesheets (single page fact sheets in PDF). As well as links to MODx sites and key articles. Why not let our growing fanbase do the work if they want to.

                  Cheers,

                  Jay
