      I join Zi’s curiosity about the state of things, either for 1.0 and the manager overhaul...

        1.0 will be an entirely new manager. Jeff is working on cleaning up the existing manager. Getting rid of some of the IE-only stuff and lots of layout tables.

        Front end design will be INCREDIBLY closely monitored and considered for the 1.0 release. I would not be surprised to see a lot less functionality by the stock manager, but a lot MORE plugins/modules (or equivalents thereof).

        The 1.0 manager will actually be nothing more than MODx pages, using the MODx parser and some default permissions sets. The tool will be built with the tool itself! wink

          @ Jeff’s work: I would love to see the previews.. Jeff ?

          @ 1.0 Frontend design: What you mean by "less functionality by the stock manager," ? Will new manager has less functionalities ?

          Tool on top of tool sounds good to me!, will give endless possibilites to the developer I guess!

          regards.

            From what I understand of Ryan’s statement, it simply means you don’t have a backend per say : you login and you access admin features directly from the frontend. I guess you’ll have a couple templates to help you set up basic admin pages that you can template to your wish. We probably will get admin tags to build those, which would allow to place whichever item we need. A very nice concept, since it would make administrating a MODx website a breeze, directly from the frontend. What I’d like to see on top of those features is a full blown permission/role matrix, with per users (not permission assigned to groups but also to users) and per features permissions (e.g if I want to grant only some admin rights to an editor of the website for whatever reason, I could. For example, let’s say I want someone to have full editing privilege, but also be able to create a user with whatever editing privileges they might need).

            I wonder what quickedit will become in this scenario : not only an editing bar but also an admin bar ?

            Anyway, I LOVE the concept grin

              The stuff Jeff is doing is simply removing tables and cleaning up the underlying class structures. It’s not all that visually revolutionary... but builds on the work already done in the earlier stylesheet consolidation.

              The admin won’t be happening from the front end most likely. It will be very much like it is today, just built using the same tools and APIs you use to build a "front end" site.

                Well, 1.0 Admin area needs to be skinned anyway ? thats what I want to know about, the pages etc.

                @David and Ryan: Even if frontend wont exist, but simple php pages and ajax IMO will make a better interface and reduce the time to go into admin and change something. But I am very excited to see it smiley

                    I stand corrected, I had misunderstood this... but it’s close anyway, if I can customize backend pages as well as frontent pages the result is pretty much the same smiley

                    @Zi : couldn’t agree more !
