Pretty comprehensive, Ryan, don’t see anything missing here !
I agree on the need of having translation teams. Right now things are handled with no structure, having one will ensure coherence and long term continuity of MODx translations.
The native language microsite is a *great* thing, one that will make us visible in search engines for other languages, and use as a reference point for all MODx resources in a given language. Now we have to agree what content we will have for those, to have a "base packages" available for moderators who’ll run them. One thing needs to be clear : where will those be hosted ? I am not sure where you stand there, but of course for SEO optimisation those site would best be hosted in their respective country, as it will greatly impact their referencing.
As for the subforum structure, thanks, though I am not the sole author of this structure : I had launched a thread on the french board and many people contributed to it (probably why it’s good).
About the links back, yeah that could help a great deal ! We should also offer this kind of crafted link to bloggers who’d like to link to MODx (in fact, one of the things I am currently wrapping my head around is building a promotion kit of some kind).
Last but not least, I am glad you mention multilanguage implementation and resources download. I have been asking on madmage’s threads (
here and
here) about his multilingual solution since I think it would really be the most powerful way to deal with multilanguage = having it integrated in manager and stored in dB. It should not require some TV setup, hacking and such...
Resource download will become more critical as resources grow... Documentation is also key : maybe we’d need some additionnal people contributing to it here (?).
