MODx Newsletter

Dear Marketing team,

Newsletter is a good tool to update our members at a glance, and I am sure people love to see whats happening quickly instead of digging through all the forums.

So, how about a monthly newsletter, containing highlights of recent happenings, and other misc. information about MODx ? This can be contain many little information like:

What’s New?
Recent Modules/Snippets
Recent Templates
Recent Bugs/Security updates (dont know about it)
etc.

Thoughts ?

Great idea Zi, I was about to talk about it too : in fact I even started a kind of "newsletter thread" in the french section of the forums.

It most definitely would be a nice thing, the MODx project having a rapid development cycle there’ll always be news ! Plus give a few tease about the future could get us some interrest...

{$member.email} - The current member’s email.
{$member.link} - The current member’s link.
{$member.id} - The current member’s id.
{$member.name} - The current member’s name. (for personalization.)
{$latest_member.link} - The most recently registered member’s link.
{$latest_member.id} - The most recently registered member’s id.
{$latest_member.name} - The most recently registered member’s name.

This will be opt-in?

I have been a little absent lately (three websites going live on a two week spread) but I am back and will soon issue a definite marketing plan and start doing some action now...

What do we need to set up this newsletter ?
But first of all, how do we proceed to write this up ?

I propose we create a thread here in the Marketing section each months, were everyone could add something for the next release. I would take care of making everything into one coherent piece, get it validated and Zi would "ship" this to the users.

Which brings me to Susan’s question : How do they subscribe and manage their subscription ?

@Subscriptions: Nice point David! It seems SMF has nothing like subscription handler for newsletter ... I guess we need to use 3rd party solution !

Third party solution ? Duhhhh... why not the newsletter snippet ?

ok, thanks for pointing... just out of curiousity, Do you think the newsletter snippet is powerfull enough to handle 3000+ users ?

I don’t think it will currently work, unfortunately. There is currently no queue provisions.

Then what to choose as interim/alternate ?

OR we just create newsletter post in a forum (dedicated read-only archive) and simply announce it. (by announcing it will be sent to all members) ... but I dont know if it has Queue Provisions ...
