There has been lots of sawdust and smashed fingers, but Ryan and I have been working til the weeeeee hours of the night (for many, many nights now... ...or was it just one exceptionally long day?) on a Not Entirely Top Secret project to free the manager from the confines of its frames and fully CSS enable everything in the backend.
Attached are a couple of screenshots of what the new layout looks like ... and maybe even a glimpse of a new feature or two.

I think that the manager redo is going to be the most important element in showing that we’re not just hacking Etomite here.
One quick comment. In a manager interface typically like to have as much screen real estate as possible. The MODx header seems like it could be shrunk down a bit.
I know that this can be changed via CSS easily enough after the fact but it migt still be something worth doing on the default theme, since I doubt that many people will change it.

Very nice.
I’ve worked up that type of menu arrangement twice, the modular nature of the manager system made it fairly easy, but both times I got stuck on what to do with the document tree. I gather you made it a pop-up on demand? I hate javascript; I’d rather wash up the dishes or change a diaper. Both times I was working on this I got up and swept and mopped floors rather than dive into the javascript. Good job!

Might want to make the header collapsable? If so when it’s collapsed it should show a smaller header with some quick link buttons etc.
