Dimmy Luca made what I thought was a wonderful document to explain how MODx can apply to folks. Here’s a copy of it removed from the word doc. Only missing one part (since added): "I am a professional developer". Needs some ongoing wordsmithing, but a tremendous starting point:

Who are you?

I am a web surfer
In this case, you?ll probably never notice MODx! In fact MODx works ?behind the scenes? to generate the pages of your favorite website, absolutely without forcing the web designer to conform to its whims. The site could be handsome or ugly, depending on the designer?s skills? ... there simlpy isn?t a ?MODx-ish style?! In fact we hope the only thing you notice is a fast, consistent, easy-to-navigate website, rich with multimedia content and interactive features.

I work in a Marketing department
You are responsible for updating your company’s website. You are all but a computer geek, and cringe when you think about calling the IT-department to make those simple changes. Thankfully, your web team chose to prepare a beautiful site powered by MODx. All you have to do is to login and update your web pages with MODx?s WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor: it is easier than using Microsoft? Word! Don?t be scared to do something wrong: your webmaster disabled all the possibly dangerous features of MODx in your account, using MODx?s permission system.

I am creating my personal website
You want to have a spot on the web? Great! MODx is all you need. You can setup your personal website in minutes, without needing to know HTML, CSS or PHP. MODx installer will take care of the installation process in a bunch of easy steps. With an intuitive WYSIWYG editor you will create your pages. Do you want to add a gallery, a blog, a guestbook? Simply download the corresponding module/snippet from the MODx site, and insert it into your MODx manager!

I am a web designer
Then you can get the most from MODx. Create your own template: a template is just an ordinary HTML/CSS page with special ?tags? that will be dynamically replaced with contents (page title, page content, menu, etc). Create your own snippets, i.e. fragments of PHP code that will be executed when the page is loaded; snippets take advantage of MODx?s powerful API, which let you easily play with the content of your website. Integrate third-party software. Create and manage user accounts both for your back-end (the manager) and your front-end (the site itself). Let your site be really yours: you won?t need to come with any compromise with your CMS!

I am a professional web developer
Then you can _really_ get the most from MODx. Let the designers take care of the look-and-feel without messing up your code. Create your own custom snippets (our word for sections of executable PHP code) and take advantage of MODx?s powerful API. Don’t like the way something works in MODx? No problem! Just create a plugin or module that overrrides it using the event-driven interface built in. That way you can have a completely custom install without having to worry about future upgrades... it’ll just work. Integrate third-party software. Create and manage user accounts both for your back-end (the manager) and your front-end (the site itself), locking your site maintainers out of the parts that they should never touch. Let your site be really yours: you won?t need to come with any compromise with your CMS!

I don’t fit in the above categories
Congratulations! Probably you just enjoy surfing the web; you may have even considered creating your own website. You install MODx and build up a great website using its built-in snippets and available templates, but you want to personalize it slightly more. Then you begin to modify some snippets here and there, you play with your template and? you discover how fun it is to become a hobbyist ? or why not a professional ? web designer!
