I was thinking about the perennial question of how to tie users to a single page or a page and its children and some ideas came to mind. I’m sure this has been discussed, but I thought I’d throw it out there just in case.

What if we added a system setting that caused the tree_root_id user setting to be honored in the front end (i.e. in all contexts unless overridden by a context setting)? I guess there would have to be another setting to establish what part of the site it would apply to (otherwise anonymous users would see nothing, ever).

In any event, I think we should consider adding tree_root_id (and maybe file_manage_path) to the User profile screen and create the user settings if they’re filled in. It’s a real pain to create users, then go to Security->Manage Users->Update User->Settings tab->Create New and type in the system settings for each user.

I’m working on doing this with a snippet and plugin, which may be a better idea anyway.
