I notice that I don’t see that page in the Beta-3 release, but it’s there in the current SVN version.
I’m just wondering what the plan is for that page and for letting users relocate and rename the various directories.

It’s in the advanced package (and when you install from SVN), but not the traditional package, because all the files are delivered in place.

Will we be recommending that people move the core?
And, when people want to move the core, will we advise them to use the advanced package or to do it manually?

Sorry for the slow response time, have been really sick for a week and a half...
Anyway, we likely will have completely different instructions for shared/relocated core installation, either via a custom distribution with custom setup, or via SVN with a manual step to edit the MODX_CORE_PATH and/or MODX_CONFIG_KEY prior to setup being run. It may be possible to work this into the advanced package with manual intervention as well.

I just wondered if we might be planning to recommend at some point that everyone move the core for improved security.

Not everyone, no. It’s just as easy to use an .htaccess to prevent access. Just providing options for different environments.
