I was wondering if an XML installer would be helpful in some way or another so that you could install modules/plugins cleanly and nicely without having the end user ftp everything into place.

Anything that can remove the ftp step would be helpful, I’d think.

Is someone still developing this installer technology? If not i would like to create a concept installer.
I think such an installer will attract even more souls to MODx:)

Whoa guys...there is definitely traction here...let’s get a solid plan and collaborative effort going here. I’d like to see a lot more consolidation of efforts starting with this initiative, towards the goal of getting to 1.0 by way of the 0.9.7 stepping stone.
I have done quite a bit of planning on this myself and just need some time to get the functional specs written out. bS, feel free to contact me and discuss what has and hasn’t yet been done to get the next generation installer completed. In my vision, it should feature a marriage between the work Victor has put into the bootstrap installer, including an Ajax-powered installer framework, as well as database agnostic import/export and schema change facilities I am working on as part of xPDO and MODx 0.9.7.
... any news on this installer technology ?
