Hi Everyone,

Here’s a quick screenshot of the Manager Login. This is running on the new ThemeEngine which allows us to use frontend tags inside the template files.

Very cool! Looks like you’re making quick progress.

I’ve been playing around with the color scheme a bit with my own little layout idea. Ryan suggested that we perhaps get away from the typical blue theme so as to further separate us from Eto and give us a more distinct look. Raymond, if it’s ok by you, would you mind forwarding over a copy of the source graphic file used to create that PNG? I’d like to play with it and update it with the color scheme I’m currently going for. When I’m done, I’ll post it here for others to review.

I’ll post the entire template engine for you all to play with soon. Most of the image files are gif files but I guess they can still be converted.

I don’t think we should change color schemes to move away from eto’s look. Look again does the above ressembles Eto? I don’t think so.

Blue for me is a nice cool color but it’s not the only color there is. Most of my conversions will color the "blue color scheme" but this can be changed to something else since the entire system is based on the MVC (Model-View-Controller) design.

The new manager should be easily tweaked color-wise through one CSS file. I say the important thing is to try to stay away from using a lot of images so that the the overall colorscheme and design can be changed. Some people may want to change the layout of the new manager but I have a feeling most will just want to poke around in the CSS.

We can also create a more fancy image laden version but I think the default template for the manager needs to focus on being easily tweaked. As a website designer I know I’d love to be able to make a few quick edits to a CSS file and have a manager that feels customized for the client just by matching the comanies colors. Simple small changes like that can make a big difference to overall perception and acceptance of a project.

I was kind of hoping for the original with all the layers and stuff...but that’s ok. I can work with the PNG you posted and just overlay my ideas on top of it.

You’re right...but although the layout and such is a big step away from Eto, the color scheme does resemble Eto quite a bit. It’s still that soft blue we’re used to seeing in the manager.

I’m not against the blue by no means. In fact, one of the things I’m aiming to do is create multiple color schemes off the same default template. So for those who are more comfortable with the blue color scheme, they can always choose the blue as their default.

One of the things that I think would be nice to see in the template engine is the ability to have variations off the same theme. For instance, let’s say you have a couple of different manager themes installed (including the default MODx theme). If a user selects the default MODx theme then they’ll also be able to select variations/colors/etc off the same theme in a different dropdown box. This is what I’m aiming for and I’ll likely create different colors for users to choose from: the typical blue, a more official MODx green, grey, red, maybe a darker grey, and a few others.

I’ve bounced some things for Ryan to look at just before Thanksgiving. He and I chatted a bit about the current color scheme and where it could go. I think that the default should be a color scheme that resembles the MODx site...though with a softer green. Again, we’ll still include a blue scheme for those who prefer it along with others.

Perhaps a bit offtopic, but do you have any pointers to documentation on the MVC?
