Sample Installer

Here’s a sample or template of the modx installer that can be used to install chunks, snippets, templates, plugins and modules.

I had some problems when trying to upload it to the SVN. I go some error message about Method not allowed.

Be sure the modify the setup.info.inc.php file when creating your install packages

Could this by chance be added to the manager itself? We could then define a "package" format and just allow the installer to do it’s thing when you’re logged into the manger. Just a thought to minimize redundant/repetive downloads.

Sure can but I’ll not be able to do that for TP3.3. Maybe someelse can get this going?

Wonderful! Just what I’ve been needing to help my non-programmer partner help me get sites up and customised quickly!

Looking at it, looks like it wouldn’t be too difficult to integrate it. Would require the module/plugin/snippet whatever developer to use a specific folder layout and naming convention, and supply a .info file with a specific format supplying information, and the installer reads the supplied .info file and replaces all those {...} all by itself. Change the interface to match Manager, and create a new menu item in 2.php, add a new action (static?) that scans the /manager/modules folder...I can see this expanding rapidly into a comple module management system! It could even just require the upload of a zip file, and would unzip and manage the whole installation, configuration, removal, deletion lifecycle process. Darn. This would be fun, but my partner is hot on the trail of making some money and I’ve got too much to do by myself as it is. <sigh> If only the common Israeli misconception that all Americans are rich were true...

In my opinion, with the current way of codes are imbeded in the database it is rather involved to create a unified installer to make it works cleanly and efficiently.

It would be nicer to the code in the file system and the install only insert records of referencing those addons.

With the code in the installer you can implement XML and domit parser without have to edit the setup.info.php instead just edit application.xml.

Version 2.0 of the installer will support a visual interface. It will be very easy for you to create your install packages and it will support xml file format and system events for the installs. For example, the OnInstallComplete event will be triggered at the end of the install.

The current version does not support any visual interface for adding modules,snippets, etc to the setup.info.php file. This would have to be done manually or an interface screen be made to allow usres to add such to the setup.info.php file.

You could create such an interface that you can use to select modules, snippets, plugins and templates and then create the setup.info.php on the fly.

I am not looking for a visual interface on the current version that you provided. I am just trying to understand what you have done and how to use it.

Ok,

Have a look at the setup.info.php file it will show you how to setup your modules, plugins, etc for installation. You might also want to have a look at the setup.info.php that comes with MODx TP3
