yeah it’s whack, the free version is limited to 40 pages. I think we’ll see a lot of migrations to modx soon.
This is so doomed to fail its almost sad that SniperX managed to whisper in Alex’s ear enough that he actually bought it.
All this is is a CMS with Sniper’s fetish to making GUIs that look like IPB. Its quite obvious why MODx was cast out, because everything that they are offering over Etomite vanilla is pretty much everything that MODx implements.
The thing I find most funny is this whole skinnable thing that they are showing off here. To me, the best thing about Etomite is that I can whip up a site skin in Photoshop, Dreamweaver...whatever, slap a few tags in it and BAM my site content loads into it like magic! That is the ease of use of the Etomite core.
Nobody in there right mind is going to pay for a CMS that you don’t get the source code until you hit the 200 bills mark. Especially considering the market that they are attempting to cater to. The funniest part about all of this would be if someone did pony up the money to check out the source code....to see exactly how much of Etomite’s GPL code has actually managed to find its way into a for profit product.
As if it needs to be said, I don’t think this little project has anything to worry about from this...

Oddly enough, Etomite itself is continuing, as GPL, apparently (so far, at least) with the original author’s blessing. I don’t see any evidence of strong development leadership there. But still, seems like modx was excommunicated for being a "fork", and that’s exactly the same thing that’s going on with Etomite right now...except that it’s not advanced enough to be percieved as a threat to the commercial version (yet). Oh, well...I’m not overly interested in "office politics" (or any other version, for that matter); just amused by humanity in general
