This is something we must be careful about. If we allow users to fully rebrand the system we are just making it easier for some to rip other people off. They will be happy more than happy to package and sell the product to other "blind-folded" customers. Also, wouldn't changing the name (rebranding) make the rebranded product a fork?

Personally I would prefer to add "supported by" branding where the developer can add support information to the product but leave the Etmoite, MODx, GPL, etc information in tact.

I like what Typo3 does in this regard, there is a comment block with Typo3, copyright and GPL info on every page that is generated by the system. Someone will always want to hack the source and remove whatever is put in there though.

That's fine in the manager, but I would rather not do anything like that in the front-end. If anything on the front-end pages, we might force a meta generator tag with our name and version in it (similar to WordPress' default theme, not forced however). That way we can track stats on how many people are using it without invading privacy as our predecessor did.
