Sorry for the stupid question, but as it hasn't been cleary stated anywhere:

    Will modx/the-module-former-named-modx be...

    - a (further developed and supported) mod which has to be applied onto the eto0.6 sourcebase?
    - a (further developed and supported) mod which has to be applied onto a specific/current sourcebase (there're some postings about a to-be-released-soon eto0.7)?
    - a new, amazing, stand-alone opensource cms which has it's roots in the eto0.6 sourcebase but has no relationship to Eto beyond that (thus a fork) and (most important) is distributed in a single installable package?

And, when will this apply (how is modx2final & modx3 affected of this)?

    Thanks smiley

At rist of lese majestie I shall respond that this project is a true fork, and will be a totally different animal than "Boomerang" (Etomite 0.7). Yes, the core codebase is going to be much the same as 0.6, since this is a fork. But most of the core functionality will be reworked, and I strongly suspect that in time it will be very difficult to find any recognizable 0.6 code at all.

It will be a wild ride, but with brilliant programmers like Raymond and Ryan, and a few hacks like myself, we'll have a fine CMS or WAF (hey, I used to be a WAVE!) or whatever it becomes!

I am temporarily hosting the last released two-step installable 0.6+ModX, as well as the latest released bug fixes and some odds and ends of snippets and documentation, on my website: http://www.sottwell.com/modx.

        It's definitely flatware. smiley

However, it will maintain backwards compatible with Etomite via maintaining those API calls. This is backwards compatibility in a good sense in that it lets those with legacy stuff integrate it completely, while letting those that want to totally open up and do thing that would have been horribly difficult at best.

You also have no idea how cool the installer is going to be. The days (yes days, not weeks) of the dual installer install are coming to a rapid close.

And it will definitely be flatware without the spyware, no forced credits in the front end of sites (although we'd really appreciate those), and the ability to easily brand the manager to support your own company!

hehe, never got around to using etomite or modx

However, been hearing good things about it for months though.

I had always thought / wanted something that was something yet everything. Having spent the better part of the last 3 years trying nearly everything I never did find something that was everything. phew ... now who was on first?

So what I am looking for: (easier to write in first person  )

I want a code base that would allow me to develop any site that I can or even not imagine yet.

Ease of use (somebody mentioned the othello analogy -- nice!)

          Ease of adaptation

So if one day I wanted a pure *nuke I grab what I need and then run with the parts. Another day I might be looking for a cart, ect ...

One thing that I'd really would strongly like to push for is a "sourceforge" based idea where I can go to the admin section and download the parts I need without having to go through the hoops of downloading/ftping/installing.

www.gossamer-threads.com has done this with their *SQL code. Very nifty and allows you the satisfaction of knowing how updated you are -- which is especially important for us "update" freaks laugh

This is it, in a big way. I've seen and tasted it and you're not going to be able to get the grin off your face. laugh

I do believe that it was mentioned in another post ... weeks to months but not a year.

I'm actually enjoying the wait since currently so much is being discussed that even a workboard should wait a little longer.

                hope this helps

                  Eto-free by next Wednesday.

                  (not promising bug-free, though!)
