    Hello all,

I have some questions regarding general video issues on the web and just looking for some feedback.

My first thought was to host the videos through youtube and post the link into modx.
But youtube has some restrictions that wont cut it, vimeo has a restriction on commercial videos so that kinda rules it out as the videos will have ads within them. Google video may be an option not sure yet.

So I guess the general question is: is there a video hosting solution out there that is reliable has maybe 24/7 support or close and allows commercial content.

The alternative is to get a large hosting package maybe an unlimited one and do all the videos on my side.
The only problem with this is I have come across a problem with modx or maybe the hosting not begin able to upload a large video file its not the in-modx file size setting its a php or something like that timing out.

    Thoughts?

      This is an excellent question.

You might have to pay for something or get used to transcribing your videos yourself and adding all the video presentation markup. Its a pain and then there is the whole "what is the future of Flash" issue.

I use a Pro Vimeo account to upload, house and present my videos. I can keep them private so no one can see them on the Vimeo site. That also keeps all the comments, etc away from my videos. I can also remove almost of the extra Vimeo branding and links. It works.

Its not perfect, but the ease of use is really great...

        Thanks mate.

Vimeos commercial clause will rule this one out, so I think I will take the hosted option which leaves me with the video uploading issues through modx.

Would modx be able to handle a file 20mb-200mb?

In the past when ever I have a large file modx just seams to upload about half then stall?

        Any ideas!

AFAIK, this is not really a MODx issue. Posting a video file on a page involves a zillion variables like file size, compression ratios, codecs, playback plugins, operation systems, server quality and user broadband speeds, not to mention providing correct page code etc.
