    Hi,

I am not new to web design as I have built several in Dreamweaver CS3 but I am starting to get more requests for sites that clients can update themselves. That lead me to WordPress and now Modx. I started hosting a site, www.fbngraphics.com with Bluehost using Wordpress and a theme I developed on another software program. I feel completely lost, in the WP admin panel. Then I saw Modx. Looking pretty good. Ah relief!

First things first -- when starting up I received this notice.
One or more configuration details didn’t check out OK:
    Configuration warning: Installer still present
What does this mean? --- The setup/ directory contains the installer for MODx. Just imagine what might happen if an evil person finds this folder and runs the installer! He’d probably not get too far, because he’ll need to enter some user information for the database, but it’s still best to remove this folder from your server. Please contact a systems administrator and warn them about this message!
I looked but did not see the Folder. Can you tell me the exact folder/file name? Thank you very much. Minione.

Go to the site using an ftp client. On a Mac I use Fetch, on a PC Filezilla. In the root directory there is a folder titled "Installer".

You simply need to delete it. Usually this happens when the install is complete, but you may not have selected the option.

        Hi,

It is me again. I am currently in my hosting company( Bluehost.com) c-panel for the website www.fbngraphics.com. I still cannot find this installer file to be removed. In the public directory there is a directory for FBN files and a Modx directory. There are also three directories for wp-admin, wp-content and wp-content. Below that are a ton of wp files (php).

When I click on the Modx directory the following directories are listed:

assets, connectors, core, manager, setup, config.core.php, ht.access and index.php. When I look in the sub directories there is no installer folder/directory/file in any of those folders.

Am I even in the right place? Don’t know where else to look. The files in the Modx admin look pretty much the same as the ones that are installed in the Modx Directory on the hosting panel. Is there anything I can send that will help you?
        Thanks. Minione

You are in the right place. Looks like this is MODx revolution, then the folder you need to get rid of is the setup folder inside the MODx folder. It has all the installation files. This is what the configuration message you’re seeing is about.

This is helpful but I really delete the whole folder? There are more folders like assets, controllers, includes, lang, provisioner, index.php etc.
            the word deletes scares me.

The only folder you need to delete is the "setup" folder. Generally the installer gives you the option to do this when you’re completing the installation, but if you don’t check the checkbox then it doesn’t get deleted.

              Read http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Basic+Installation

"MODx recommends that you make sure to remove the setup/ directory after installing, to safeguard your site from anyone else trying to run setup on your site."

Thank you again. I have gone ahead and read the linked page you sent. Possibly I should do this in the daylight hours. I am finding that Bob’s Guide is very helpful.

Thanks for the kind words. smiley

I was going to suggest the "Porting your site to MODx" section there.

The Setup directory is only necessary to install MODx, so you won’t miss it as long as you’ve successfully installed MODx. And if you do, you can always re-upload it (or undelete it on many hosts).
