Signatures4U - community based graphics site on Revolution [Work in progress]

Hi,

I’ve been working on my little Signatures4U project lately. It’s a website where users (artists) can upload their graphics, mainly aimed at forum users (think: avatars, underbanners etc).

http://www.signatures4u.net/

At this moment, the layout is in place and the basics of the login system also. I hope to finish the user system this week. Next week I’ll be working (expanding) on the upload system and the first real graphics will be added.

The layout is pretty much XHTML valid, as is the CSS (2.1).

Adobe Browserlabs shows the layout as it should be on the biggest browsers, and even IE6 renders alright. Only the top right menu floats off a bit, but I can live with that for now. The site uses quite some transparent .png’s, which I stored as PNG-8 instead of PNG-24, after which a little PNGtweak-ing to get rid of the wrong interpretation of colors in IE made sure it looked alright.

So, yeah. I’m open for suggestions / comments etc. I’m considering keeping this topic updated with the progress just to get your valuable feedback throughout the building.

I like logo and menu, I would work on typography and improve the blue background.

Thanks for your feedback!

I was planning on making the titles use the same font as the logo, using images with alt’s for SEO. Paragraphs simply use Calibri/Arial as backup.

What do you think could be improved with the blue background (assuming you mean within the container)?

I have the impression that there is too much blank space (for example on the top right hand corner). On the left the text looks odd because the title is not aligned with the content, you might consider to decrease the angle of the container.

I would also change the sidebar background so that it doesn’t look merged with the content area.

Most of the container indeed remains empty for now... Of course, this will change when more content is ready The top right will probably stay like it is - for now.
I had the idea that when you hover over a menu item, the text would show up in that area also (rather then just the anchor title), but I’m not too sure about that yet.

Did some re-aligning of the titles and the text. The title is now aligned properly (or maybe needs to shift another 2px or so). I also set the font I used for the logo in the CSS for the titles - so if you have the font installed it’ll show that one.

I would also change the sidebar background so that it doesn’t look merged with the content area.

I realigned the text a bit to increase the space between the content and the sidebar, give them both some air. I’m not too sure about changing the background color - I consider the sidebar as ’integrated’ into the content, and I’m not too sure about making it something different all the way. Nevertheless it’s good to have someone else’s view on it, and I’ll keep it in mind

I don’t see the font. Maybe you could use the Google font directory http://code.google.com/apis/webfonts/.

Replaced with an image.
