    Hi,
I have just finished my very first Modx site. It is also my very first full-scale e-commerce site. And I can say, it is my first truly custom designed site (100% from scratch). Lot of firsts, I guess I figured I combine them into one big learning experience. And experience it was - almost 4 month of development. Tons of snippets, Dittos and other Modx goodies. Shopping cart is FoxyCart, moderately customized (not my first one ;-)
    Anyway, here’s the link: http://www.giftbasketdreamland.com
Hope you like it. Either way, feedback is appreciated.
    Thanks.

      Nice!

I just joined the MODx community and my main concern are e-commerce sites.
I ran through tons of web CMS reviews, and of course I’m more of an SEO consultant, so MODx was a charm to discover.
Back to my E-commerce concern, the foxycart you are using is it free? I didn,t quite get what foxycart meant by "development" and "buisness" formulas for their product... since you know it more perhaps you could enlighten me?

      thx

FoxyCart costs $19 a month. The reason I choose it is the ease to modify and truly make it look like an integral part of any web site. Unlike most other popular carts, such as ZenCart, OSCommerce etc, Foxycart does not come with its own CMS. If you look at most popular carts, they all come with their own CMS, inventory system etc. It’s all-in-one. That would be great, but the drawback is, that they are harder (and sometimes very hard) to modify without going too much into the core code. Foxycart allows for easy CSS modification. Plus, it is an excellent cart, allowing having much most functions the other carts have.

          Thx for the answer!

Have you used any other cart systems other than foxycart?
I’m headed towards making a very first e-commerce site, so I have tons of questions that just blurt into my mind.
What is the main advantage of using Foxycart vs setting up direct payment with paypal? (which is very straightforward)

          thx again

Actually I did not use any other carts. I was simply looking for a cart, that integrates into my web site, rather than having my site build around the cart. However, if all you need is the free PayPal checkout, than you really do not need any cart at all. Just import the Pay Now button and link it to your PayPal account. The advantage of Foxycart is, that I can accept Credit Cards. It also accepts PayPal. Of course, unlike the PayPal button, FoxyCart is a shopping cart, meaning, you can do calculations (for example shipping), have multiple items placed in the cart etc.
