Latest venture

Hi All,

I have just set my Campsite directory live, although it’s not completed and I still have to add about 500 campsites to it I decided to set it live on the hopes that it get’s me a bit more motivated to add them

All feedback welcome, but please keep in mind it’s not yet completed.

i know you’ve been working on this for quite a while, so i’m happy to finally see the outcome! actually i started on something (roughly) similar a while ago, but unfortunately never finished it ... i’m such a bum

one thing that irritates me a tiny bit is the hover state of the horizontal menu. to switch the shadow from bottom to top appears (in my eyes) a bit harsh...maybe experiment with something more subtle (my 2 cents )

all in all awesome site!

Thanks Jan, its taken a good few late nights to build because of work commitments but I recon it will be worth it in the end.

actually i started on something (roughly) similar a while ago, but unfortunately never finished it ... i’m such a bum

I started something 2 years ago that was a business directory for different areas but lost interest due to the fact that the first area I covered decided to knock down their town center and rebuild it lol, so that total network was abandoned and I decided to go with campsites. Campsites in wales got just over 77,000 searches in google last augest so hopefully when the site is finished and indexed I will get 70%+ of them

I’m not really good with photo shop so normally just do a reverse hover state for the main nav, I tried it by setting oit to a solid background colour but that didn’t work so just settled for the reverse lol

EDIT: and just want to add that site would not have been possible if I didn’t have such good support from the MODx community, a big thankyou to everyone that helped me

Now added a member login to the site using WebloginPE so that only members can see campsite offers ( http://www.campsites-in-wales.co.uk/campsite-offers.html ) if anyone wants to have a try or it user is temp and password is 123456.

The site also uses Ditto to call the campsites by location, css star rating to rate the sites, jot for the comment system, ajax search for the search system, a RSS addon that I can’t remember the name of and several template variables to add the site info.

All done with 4 templates so not bad.

Must say I’m really proud of this build and would love some more feedback good or bad.

A big thanks to the MODx creators for building a system that is so easy to use and un restricting, and a massive thankyou to the community who have helped me constantly with any problems I have had.
