I created a database in phpMyadmin but it didn’t asked for password. While installing modx its asking for the password. I tried giving root as password but it shows "Connection to host: failed!" . Even keeping the password field blank its showing the same message.

Please give me a solution for this.

Don’t use phpMyadmin to create database.
MODx installer will do every thing for you. Just follow instructions carefully.

Some database users don’t have permissions to create databases so they need to be done in advance. That said if you can create a user with the user in phpMyAdmin, the installer should be able to do it too.

          Thanks... it works... smiley

it shows "Connection to host: passed - collations now available"

and next it shows "Checking database: passed - database created"

but on clicking next button it gives an alert "You need to enter a password for system admin account"

          what does this means?

Did you miss a box where you had to create a password for your MODx admin/manager user? Do you have a screen shot you could show us?

Click twice on check database, a new portion of form will open.

When you installed Wampserver, did you create a password for your root account in phpmyadmin/mysql?
